Battery 245 Turret

Fort Stevens State Park. Hammond, Oregon. March 30, 2025.

The turret here is a 5-inch naval gun at Battery 245, located near the mouth of the Columbia River on the Oregon side.

I have to add that the ship sailing upstream on the Columbia in the background adds a nice touch to the element.

Fort Stevens is a historical military site built at the end of the Civil War. It has been active for the Spanish-American War and World War II. It was the subject of an attack by an Japanese submarine in 1942. In 1947, Fort Stevens closed permanently.

Today, Fort Stevens serves as a history lesson of the past wars. It also serves as a recreational area that features camping, tours, disc golf, hiking, beaches, and much more.

Please, no more wars.
