Six years ago on this day, thick smoke from the wildfires southeast of the Portland area filled the sky, casting an ominous orange glow. The entire Clackamas County was at least under evacuation level 1
I was photographing the ominous and apocalyptic-like scene from near the mouth of Johnson Creek when a small fire broke out on the island around 7:15 p.m. A few minutes, sirens from fire trucks blared.
The low water made the island accessible by land for the firefighters. Firefighters extinguished the fire. The cause of the fire wasn’t determined, but it was highly suspected to be human-caused.
