Centennial Mills Water Tower Demolition

Centennial Mills water tower being brought down with explosives on Aug. 17, 2026. (Bryan Dorr)

On August 17, 2026, I watched the water tower on top of the 116-year-old Centennial Mills building crash down and into inside the building. The building was at risk of collapse after a fire on August 2 and needed to be demolished. The collapse risk also closed NW Naito Parkway and disrupted Amtrak Service to Portland from the north.

At 2:30 p.m., a loud bang rips through the air as the tank disappears into the fireball and black smoke.
