Return to Blogging

Do you remember back in the late 1990s and early 2000s, the Web 1.0 era when we had blogs? Several blogs still exist today, but in fewer numbers as social media has sucked away many blogs.

In the latter part of the 2000s, social media took off. We had MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, and so forth. The platforms brought people together and interact on whatever interests they had, from their favorite craft to sharing what they had for dinner.

Sadly, the good days of social media are now gone.

Twitter has become a toxic cesspool of hate and misinformation. Instagram and Facebook (Meta) fills my timeline with algorithm-based garbage posts and Reels from accounts that I don’t follow, while snooping into my personal data. I have avoided the many other social media apps to avoid fatigue. Bluesky is my only remaining social media app, which has been experience for me so far (I’m moving away from Facebook and Instagram).

Social media has become too toxic and noisy, or lost their purpose. Instagram used to be a photo sharing site until they went to focusing on video for the sake of competing with TikTok. Same with Facebook. Twitter, once a simple microblogging site, evolved into a complex site until Elon Musk trashed the site. Algorithms and analytics ruined the whole experience.

This is why I’m going back to my blog.

My blog is my platform where I can sit down and write out my post and share my photos. Visitors can read it for their enjoyment. I also miss the long-form writing. It makes me think and learn, and discover things (AI can go F-off).

I also have some inspiration from other bloggers. Cyclotram has been pumping out posts since 2005 of various points of interests around the Pacific Northwest and beyond.

Wil Wheaton dot Net is another blog I like to read. It feels satisfying to read and it feels down to earth.

Astoria Dave is a blog about the happenings in Astoria, Oregon (I was in Astoria today).

I’m definitely pumped up and motivated to get back to blogging again.
